BALBRIGGAN

Balbriggan (also known as the town of the small hills) is a town located in county Dublin, about 21 miles (34km) North of Dublin city. The town has grown a lot in the last ten years or so mainly because of the economy of the 'Celtic Tiger'.

Balbriggan is situated on the Dublin to Belfast railway network. Balbriggan railway station is served by the commuter rail services. More than two thousand commuters use the railway station each day.

Balbriigan is also located near the M1 motorway (this is referred to as the Balbriggan Bypass), which was built in the late 90's. Before the bypass was built, the main road used to go through the town centre, which caused a traffic bottle neck.

Balbriggan town has a river that flows through it, this is called River Bracken (also called Matt river). The river once produced a lake named 'the canal', which use to turn a waterwheel for the cotton Industry.

Back in the sixties, one of the walls collapsed. Since then the area was turned into a public park.
