DONABATE, DUBLIN
Donabate is a suburban coastal town near Dublin in Ireland. It is located approximately twenty kilometres North East of Dublin city. The town lies on a peninsula together with the town of Portrane.
The Donabate peninsula has an extraordinary shape similar to a hammer-head. This is due to both of the mouth's estuaries surrounding the peninsula, are partly shut by sand spits, stretching fro the North to the South.
The beaches at Donabate and Portrane are looked after by lifeguards in the Summer season.Portrane beach, along with some other Irish beaches lost it's blue flag status back in two thousand and nine, because of poor water quality.
Although the East coast of Ireland is not known for surfing, surfers are spotted regularly at Donabate beach.
Sailing, wind surfing and Kayaking are very popular water sports. Broadmeadow estuary is especially attractive with access from Malahide and Donabate.
