LOUGHLINSTOWN
Loughlinstown is a suburb in South Dublin. It is situated in the County of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, and is on the National primary route of the M1.
Loughlinstown lies in the area near St.Columcille's Hospital, which covers North Wicklow and South Dublin districts. Loughlinstown houses The European Foundation of Working Conditions and living Improvements.
Loughlinstown was originally a village, on the road from Bray to Dublin. During the sixtees, one of the first of dual carriegeway roads, was built through this area, leaving Loughlinstown divided along the west side of the new road
A very large old Chestnut tree was situated in the centre of the dual carriageway for many years, at its junction with the Wyatville road.
It was often called The Big Tree, and was a landmark feature on the road from Wicklow to Dublin. Later the junction was upgraded in the nineteen seventies, and the tree was knocked down.
In two thousand and four, the old sixtees road was renewed with a new dual carriageway, and this junction was replaced with an overbridge.
