STONEYBATTER, DUBLIN

Stoneybatter is a suburb of Dublin city in Ireland. It is located to the North of the capital, between Grangegorman and the River Liffey. The area lies in the postal district seven.

There used to be an ancient royal highway passing through Stoneybatter, between the Hill of Tara and Glendalough.

It was similar to Roman roads, paved with stones. The Irish name for it wasBothar na Gloch (Stoney Road). This led to the name Stoneybatter.

Stoneybatter is also famous for the Viking street names, including, Viking Road, Norseman Place, Harold road and many more.

The Northern part of Stoneybatter is named Manor Street, bestowed in seventeen eighty, from the Manor of Grangenorman, where it was situated. The Manor later became a police barracks

When Charles the second was king, the Manor was owned by Sir Thomas Stanley, who was a knight of Henry Cromwell.
